The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hon. Mémounatou Ibrahima, was at the headquarters of the institution in Abuja (Nigeria), from 6 to 8 June 2024.
This was the first official visit of the (non-resident) Speaker to Abuja following her election on 23 May in Kano, (Nigeria), during the Second Extraordinary Session of the Parliament.
The Speaker had a meeting with Parliament staff on Friday 7 June. She seized the opportunity to commend and encourage the staff while reminding them of the strategic role they play in the smooth running of the Parliament.
During her stay, Hon. Memounatou Ibrahima held talks with Heads of Institutions and political figures.
She paid a courtesy visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, and the Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Hon. Barau I. Jibrin, on Thursday, 6 June.
On the following day, 7 June, she continued her visit to the Auditor General of the ECOWAS Institutions, Joao Alage Mamadu Fadia, the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Edward Amoako Asante, Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS.
Hon. Memounatou Ibrahima ended her stay in Abuja with the third Bureau meeting of Parliament for the year, which she chaired on Saturday 8 June.
