Role of the ECOWAS Parliament in Community budget monitoring discussed in Abidjan

The delocalized meeting of the Joint Committee on Administration, Finance and Budget/Public Accounts/Macroeconomic Policy and Economic Research of the ECOWAS Parliament on the theme: ‘Role of the ECOWAS Parliament in budget formulation and monitoring’, was held from 12 to 14 August 2024 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The Opening Ceremony was presided over by the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Hadja Mémounatou Ibrahima.

A number of presentations relating to the theme of the meeting enabled the members of Parliament to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced in considering Community budget and to formulate recommendations aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the ECOWAS Parliament in considering and monitoring the Community budget.

In the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire, the Speaker of the Community Parliament took the opportunity to hold talks with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, the Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire, Eugène Beugré Mambé, and the Vice-President of Côte d’Ivoire, Tiemoko Meyliet Koné.

The discussions focused on a number of issues of common interest, notably regional cooperation and budget management within ECOWAS.
