On the side-lines of the 2022 Second Extraordinary Session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, the Togolese President, Faure Gnassingbé, granted an audience to the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Sidie Mohamed Tunis, on Thursday, 6 October 2022, in Lomé, Togo.
The two men deliberated on the enormous challenges facing the region. Speaker Tunis seized the opportunity to commend the Togolese Head of State for the important roles he plays in promoting peace, security and development in West Africa. He particularly praised him for his initiatives and personal commitment towards restoring stability in Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso.
The Speaker of the Community Parliament expressed his gratitude to the Togolese Government and People for the overwhelming support received in the organization of the Parliamentary Seminar and the Extraordinary Session. In response, President Faure Gnassingbe highlighted a number of challenges affecting the sub-region and reiterated the need for shared commitment to working together for the peace and security of the region. He called for cooperation among States with a view to finding solutions to the concerns of the region.
