Political, health and security issues, contents of the Country Reports

The countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), with the exception of Mali (suspended), presented their reports at the First Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Parliament, taking place from 27 May to 12 June 2021 in Abuja.  The reports presented by different countries reviewed the conditions under which elections were held in some countries, the complaints or disputes that accompanied them and the conditions for improving the organisation of future elections.

On the health situation, the response to COVID-19 has been highlighted in the various reports.  It notes that the pandemic has not yet been defeated.  And in view of the disastrous consequences on the economies of the States, the ECOWAS countries must coordinate their vaccination campaigns in order to drive the pandemic out of the region.

On the security situation, the fight against terrorism was discussed at length by all the delegations, as well as the development of transnational crime, which is constantly increasing in scale and in various forms.
