26th April 2022
Your Excellency,
Rt. Brig. Gen. Dr. Julius Maada Bio
President of the Republic of Sierra Leone
On the occasion of your country’s 61st year of independence, I want to convey my heartiest congratulations to Your Excellency and the People of Sierra Leone on behalf of myself and the entire membership of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States.
The success that your country has seen is not only because of its progress in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and other core development initiatives, but also because of the unity and harmony among the people. We applaud your work in expanding gender empowerment and representation, as well as protecting and promoting the rights of persons; evident in your inclusive education policy. It is very applaudable that Sierra Leone remains one of the most peaceful countries in Africa, which is especially noteworthy due to the numerous challenges to peace and security in the sub-region.
In commemorating the sacrifice of those who fought bravely to bring freedom to the nation and made it the “Realm of the Free”, we appreciate the Republic of Sierra Leone for its support and contributions to the efforts of the ECOWAS Parliament. We remain committed and ready to work together with the government and People of Sierra Leone to build a fully integrated community of peoples in a peaceful and prosperous region.
We pray for peace, stability and progress for the Republic of Sierra Leone and all its People and that you may be continually blessed with wisdom and strength to govern the Land.
Once again, congratulations Your Excellency and a HAPPY INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY!
Rt. Hon. Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis
Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament
