The Auditor General of ECOWAS, Mr Joao Alage Mamadu Fadia, on Wednesday, 22nd November 2023 praised the management of the regional parliament for the significant improvements made to the institution’s internal audit system through the implementation of risk mitigation measures.
In a goodwill message at the opening of the second session of the fifth legislature of the Parliament in Abuja, Mr Fadia gave an assurance that his office will continue to work with Community institutions to strengthen their systems in order to ensure that Community resources were prudently utilised for the benefit of the citizens.
In this way, he added, the office will be contributing to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the institutions, assuring that it will not spare any effort in helping them entrench the good financial management practices consistent with the attainment of Community objectives and that of the ECOWAS vision 2050
The primary responsibility of the Office of the Auditor General is to ensure that the expenditures of all the Community Institutions are in accordance with the approved budget and that the Community’s management, budgetary and accounting procedures are properly implemented.
