FOEA advocates for the protection Of African people from multinationals

The Non-governmental Organization (NGO), “Friends of the Earth Africa” (FoEA), a regional branch of the global network of environmental organizations, in a presentation made at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, on Saturday, 18 June 2022, in Abuja, called for the protection of the rights of African people who have been victimized in the establishment of multinational companies or in the context of their operation.

In her presentation, the Coordinator, biodiversity and forest program of the NGO, Madam Rita Uwaka enumerated several cases of violations of the rights of African Communities by multinational companies working in the agribusiness sector before the MPs of the Community Parliament.  

According to Madame Uwaka, the multinationals, while setting up or running their operations, violate the rights of indigenous people by destroying forests and lands to the detriment of the people who depend on them for their daily living.

To this end, the NGO called on the Community Parliamentarians to support economic partnerships that respect the rights of communities and indigenous people in Africa and that which will restore the environment.   

The NGO “Friends of the Earth Africa” is present in Cameroon, Ghana, Liberia, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda.
