The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Jean Claude Kassi Brou, presented the State of the Community Report to the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja on Tuesday, 14 June 2022.
In his presentation, the President of the Commission touched on several themes ranging from health, political issues in the region, security, agriculture, environment, trade, free movement of people, telecommunications, to the various programmes implemented by the institution.
Beyond meeting the regulatory requirements of the institution, the aim of this exercise is to exchange and share recent developments in the region and take stock of the implementation of the ECOWAS work programme.
He recalled the context of the region characterized by the persistence of the COVID-19 pandemic, a very difficult security situation leading to humanitarian crises, political challenges with the occurrence of coups d’état in Mali, Burkina Faso and Guinea.
Despite all these challenges, President Kassi Brou said, “our economy has remained resilient. Therefore, ECOWAS Commission intends to continue the implementation of regional programmes for the well-being of the people of the Community space.
