The Speaker of the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS) Parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, on Saturday 5 March 2022 in Monrovia, reiterated the resolve of the Community Parliament to support the implementation of the ECOWAS Vision 2050.
He made this pledge at the end of the Parliamentary Seminar held on the theme, “ECOWAS Vision 2050: Formulation Process and Challenges to its Implementation”.
The Report of the Parliamentary Seminar was adopted by the Community Parliamentarians.
The recommendations of the Seminar highlight the roles of Member States, the ECOWAS Commission and Parliament. The Member States are urged to take ownership of the Vision and ensure that they mobilise sufficient resources for its implementation, while the ECOWAS Commission is expected to foster the necessary political will and put in place an effective steering and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the success of the Vision. Within the framework of its oversight function, the ECOWAS Parliament is expected to ensure the effective monitoring of the implementation of the Vision as well as support the advocacy for a wider ownership of this ECOWAS forward-looking programme by the people of West Africa.
Speaker Tunis called on all the Parliamentarians to be fully committed towards ensuring that the recommendations of the Seminar are implemented in their respective Member States.
